P: ¿Puedes comenzar presentándote y compartiendo un poco sobre tu experiencia?
Nico: Encantado. Mi nombre es Nico y me uní a Veriff en agosto de 2022 como Gerente de Clientes.  Antes de esto, trabajaba en consultoría de cumplimiento normativo, ayudando principalmente a fabricantes de productos electrónicos a entrar en el mercado latinoamericano. Mi experiencia está en desarrollo de negocios, dirección de proyectos y gestión de cuentas. Me crié en un casa multicultural donde aprendí español como mi primera lengua. En mis veintes viajé extensamente por Sudamérica, lo que dio forma a mi perspectiva y guió mi carrera. Todo esto se ha unido de forma significativa en mi trabajo aquí en Veriff..

P: ¿Cómo conociste Veriff y qué te atrajo a unirte a la empresa?
Nico: Aprendi de Veriff por un amigo, Nick Karlsen, que estaba —y sigue — trabajando en la empresa. Estaba muy ilusionado con las oportunidades aquí, especialmente en el mercado de verificación de identidad (IDV). Su entusiasmo despertó mi interés, y cuando pasé por el proceso de entrevistas, Jason del People Team facilitó una experiencia muy comoda y sensible. Desde la primera entrevista con el equipo, me sentí cómodo y seguro de que éste era el destino ideal para mí. Así que cuando recibí la oferta, fue pan comido.

P: ¿Puedes describir tu rol actual y en qué consiste?
Nico: Como el primer CSM para la región LATAM, me encargo de las relaciones con nuestros clientes en Mexico, Central y Sudamerica. Soy su principal punto de contacto y trabajo de cerca con el equipo de ventas y los ingenieros de soluciones para asegurar que sus necesidades y voces se escuchen dentro de Veriff. Mi rol consiste en ayudarles a sacar el máximo provecho de nuestras soluciones. Es muy colaborativo; trabajo con varios equipos internos como producto, fraude, QA, legal y marketing para asegurar que las preocupaciones y objetivos de nuestros clientes se atienden de forma completa.

P: ¿Cómo es trabajar en el mercado latinoamericano? ¿Puedes hablar sobre los desafíos y oportunidades allí?
Nico: El mercado Latinoamericano es muy dinámico, y no hay dos días iguales. Nuestro equipo es pequeño pero muy unido, y nos basamos en la colaboración. Es una experiencia increíble asociarnos con los fintechs en la región que son innovadores en el campo de la inclusión financiera. Estas empresas están haciendo un trabajo admirable ofreciendo acceso al capital a millones de personas mediante sus soluciones digitales.

Uno de los grandes obstáculos a los que nos enfrentamos es la prevalencia del fraude. El fraude es un gran problema en toda América Latina, en parte porque la infraestructura normativa no se ha puesto totalmente al día con la rápida digitalización de la región. Algunos países siguen usando documentos con características de seguridad limitadas, o incluso sistemas basados en papel, que son objetivos fáciles para los defraudadores. Sin embargo, nuestros clientes son tan creativos y resistentes como los defraudadores, y ahí es donde entramos nosotros: para ayudarles a quedarsen un paso por delante.

P: La lucha contra el fraude parece ser una batalla constante. ¿Cómo responde Veriff a estos retos?

Nico: Los defraudadores en LATAM son ciertamente ingeniosos y creativos, pero nuestras soluciones también lo son. Veriff ofrece herramientas que permiten a las empresas modernizar sus procesos de onboarding y KYC a un costo relativamente bajo en comparación con el fraude que estamos ayudando a prevenir. Como el panorama está en constante evolución, siempre tenemos que continuar innovando. Nuestro equipo trabaja codo a codo con los clientes para identificar los vectores de fraude emergentes, y colaboramos con nuestros equipos internos de fraude e ingeniería para desarrollar las soluciones más efectivas. Todo se basa en ser proactivo y flexible.

P: ¿Qué es lo que más te entusiasma de las oportunidades en la región?

Nico: El potencial de crecimiento en LATAM es enorme. Estamos a la vanguardia de una transformación digital que está abriendo el acceso a los servicios financieros a personas que antes estaban desatendidas o completamente excluidas. Este trabajo con laloss fintechs latinoamericanos está teniendo un impacto tangible en la vida de las personas, y es increíblemente gratificante. Cada día ayudamos a crear un ecosistema financiero más inclusivo, y estoy muy orgulloso de formar parte de ese progreso.

P: La misión de Veriff se centra en la confianza y la seguridad en el Internet. ¿Cómo lo ves en tu trabajo diario?

Nico: La confianza está al centro de todo lo que hacemos. Para que los negocios en línea funcionen sin problemas, necesitan confiar en que sus clientes son quienes dicen ser. Al mismo tiempo, los clientes necesitan confiar en que sus datos personales y su información financiera están seguros. Veriff salva esa distancia permitiendo una verificación de identidad rápida y confiable. Para mí, esta misión se pone en práctica cada día mientras ayudo a los clientes a implantar nuestras soluciones, sabiendo que estamos haciendo de Internet un lugar más seguro para las empresas y para los usuarios finales. 

P: ¿Tienes alguna predicción para el futuro del sector o de tu región, especialmente con el aumento de la inteligencia artificial?

Nico: La IA ya está presente en todas nuestras vidas, y está creando nuevas oportunidades tanto para las empresas como para los defraudadores. Una de las partes más fascinantes de mi trabajo es trabajar con los clientes para identificar nuevos métodos de fraude y luego colaborar con nuestros equipos para combatirlos. No tengo predicciones específicas, pero sé que estamos en buenas manos con algunas de las mentes más brillantes que están trabajando en las tecnologías para prevenir el fraude de mañana. Mantenernos por delante de estos avances es crucial.

P: A alguien que esté pensando en unirse a Veriff, especialmente en el equipo de CSM, ¿qué consejo le darías?

Nico: Mi consejo sería que no seas tímido. Haz preguntas, sé curioso y busca relaciones fuera de tu equipo inmediato. En Veriff, todos son accesibles, y existe una oportunidad real de tener un impacto, no importa cuál sea tu papel. Si puedes salir de tu zona de confort, crecerás personal y profesionalmente en el proceso.

Nico: Sólo me gustaría decir que, aunque todo trabajo tiene sus altibajos, las relaciones que he forjado con mis compañeros me han servido para mantener los pies en la tierra. Todos sabemos para qué trabajamos, y esa misión compartida nos mantiene centrados. No sé si este sentimiento es exclusivo de Veriff, pero aquí lo siento más que en otras empresas en las que he trabajado.

Nico brings a unique background and perspective, having transitioned from regulatory compliance consulting to the world of identity verification solutions. Let's hear from him about his role, the opportunities in LATAM, and what excites him about the future.

Q: Can you start by introducing yourself and sharing a bit about your background? 

Nico: Absolutely. My name is Nico, and I joined Veriff in August 2022 as a Customer Success Manager. Before this, I worked in regulatory compliance consulting, mainly assisting electronics manufacturers with entering the Latin American market. My background is in business development, project management, and account management. Growing up in a multicultural home where I spoke Spanish as my first language and traveling extensively through South America in my twenties helped shape my perspective and experiences. All of this has come together in a meaningful way in my role here at Veriff.

Q: How did you first hear about Veriff, and what attracted you to join the company?

Nico: I learned about Veriff through a friend, Nick Karlsen, who works at the company. He was really excited about the opportunities here, especially within the identity verification (IDV) market. His enthusiasm sparked my interest, and when I went through the interview process, Jason from the People team made the experience incredibly smooth and welcoming. From the first interview with the CSM team, I felt comfortable and confident that this was the right move for me. So, when I received the offer, it was a no-brainer.

Q: Can you describe your current role and what it involves?

Nico: As Veriff’s first CSM for the LATAM region, I manage relationships with our customers across Mexico, Central and South America. I'm their primary point of contact and work closely with our account executives and solutions engineers to ensure their needs and voices are heard within Veriff. My role is all about helping them get the most out of our solutions. It's very collaborative; I work with several internal teams such as product, fraud, quality assurance, legal, and marketing to make sure our customers’ concerns and goals are addressed holistically.

Q: What’s it like working in the Latin American market? Can you talk about the challenges and opportunities there?

Nico: The LATAM market is incredibly dynamic, and no two days are the same. Our team is small but tight-knit, and we thrive on collaboration. It’s exciting to partner with fintech companies in the region that are pioneers in financial inclusion. These companies are doing amazing work by providing access to capital for millions of people through innovative digital solutions.

One of the biggest challenges we face is the prevalence of fraud. Fraud is widespread in Latin America, partly because the regulatory infrastructure hasn't fully caught up with rapid digitalization. Some countries still rely on documents with limited security features, or even paper-based systems, which are easy targets for fraudsters. However, our customers are just as creative and resilient as the fraudsters, and that’s where we come in — to help them stay one step ahead.

Q: Fraud seems to be a constant battle. How does Veriff address these challenges?

Nico: Fraudsters in LATAM are certainly scrappy and creative, but so are our solutions. Veriff offers tools that allow businesses to modernize their onboarding and Know Your Customer (KYC) processes at a relatively low cost compared to the fraud we're helping them prevent. The landscape is constantly evolving, so we need to stay innovative. Our team works closely with customers to identify emerging fraud vectors, and we collaborate with our in-house fraud and solutions engineering teams to develop the most effective solutions. It’s all about being proactive and flexible.

Q: What excites you most about the opportunities in your region?

Nico: The growth potential in LATAM is huge. We’re at the forefront of a digital transformation that’s unlocking access to financial services for people who were previously underserved or completely excluded. Working with companies that are making a tangible difference in people's lives is incredibly rewarding. Every day, we’re helping to create a more inclusive financial ecosystem, and that’s something I’m proud to be a part of.

Q: Veriff's mission is centered around trust and safety on the internet. How do you see this play out in your day-to-day work?

Nico: Trust is at the core of everything we do. For online businesses to operate smoothly, they need to trust that their customers are who they say they are. At the same time, customers need to trust that their personal data and financial information are secure. Veriff bridges that gap by enabling quick and reliable identity verification. For me, this mission plays out every day as I help customers implement our solutions, knowing we’re making the internet a safer place for both businesses and consumers.

Q: Any predictions for the future of the industry or your region, especially with the rise of AI?

Nico: AI is already everywhere, and it's creating new opportunities for businesses and fraudsters alike. One of the most fascinating parts of my job is working with customers to identify new fraud methods, and then collaborating with our teams to counter them. While I don't have any concrete predictions, I do know that we’re in good hands with some of the brightest minds working on the fraud-fighting technologies of tomorrow. Staying ahead of these challenges is crucial.

Q: For someone considering joining Veriff, especially on the CSM team, what advice would you give them?

Nico: My advice would be not to shy away. Ask questions, be curious, and build relationships beyond your immediate team. At Veriff, everyone is approachable, and there’s a real opportunity to have an impact, no matter your role. Be open to stepping outside your comfort zone — you’ll grow both personally and professionally in the process.

Nico: I’d just like to say that while every job has its ups and downs, the relationships I’ve built with my colleagues have really grounded me. We all know what we’re working towards, and that shared mission keeps us focused. I don’t know if this feeling is unique to Veriff, but I certainly feel it here more than at other companies I’ve worked for.

Amish was shortlisted for Estonia’s CFO of the Year Award for his work during the past year with us, and was recognized with an Impactful CFO Award due to widespread acclaim from both Veriff’s team and the public.

We had a chat with Amish to learn more about his time at Veriff so far, what have been his highlights during the first 12 months, and plans for the time ahead.

How has the first year at Veriff been for you and for your team?

It’s been an exciting and extremely interesting year. We have managed to grow our team and company thanks to all team members' hard work and dedication, plus some luck as well. We are expanding our business in the U.S., U.K., Estonia and beyond.

Last October we launched our new Tech Hub in Barcelona, which has since grown to over 30 team members and an office our global team visits often. It has definitely been an interesting year, but there is also a lot that we are still working on.

Did you manage to achieve the goals you and your team set?

When I joined Veriff a year ago, we had a very clear plan. Veriff had reached an interesting phase where the technology had proven itself for businesses on one hand and as a company,  we had a demand for the product with new clients coming in. To continue supporting the growth, we needed to focus on strengthening our business operations, which hadn’t been a priority in earlier stages. 

We decided to raise additional capital to support this effort. My personal focus is the financial organization and working on how financial planning and analysis, as well as accounting, supports the hyper growth that we are experiencing at the moment.

Soon after you joined the team, Veriff raised its Series B which was the largest the IDV industry had seen. Just 9 months, later the company crossed the magical $1 billion dollar evaluation line after the Series C. How did you do it? 

Raising capital or funding shouldn’t be and never was a goal on its own for us at Veriff. We raised additional funds to support our growth - and we are looking to grow more and do it well. I’m glad to say that both of our funding rounds have been rather quick and smooth processes, and we have had the luxury of choosing who we would like to work with. 

Raising additional funding has accelerated our growth and it gives our clients a certain assurance and a clear signal to the market that we are a partner who can be trusted. Becoming a unicorn supports the growth of a company, as it creates a reputation and reassurance to clients that you are of a certain size. However, looking at the bigger picture, it is not a goal on its own, but rather a mid-term evaluation made by someone else.

Additionally, as all Veriffians are owners of the company through our stock options program, these two funding rounds have been a testament to their dedication and work as well. This helps to build ownership within the company.

You’ve been awarded for your work at Veriff in recognition of the impact you’ve made. In your opinion, what makes a good CFO?

There are many different types of CFOs, but there is no one thing that makes you excellent - being a good CFO involves a variety of things. I think a good CFO has a broad vision of what a company needs. 

They know more generally the business logic and the business model, but also have the basics of accounting, the risks. Having a good understanding of how the product works is also crucial. However, above all, they care a lot about people - their team, people and customers.

What is your focus on the next 12 months?

Our focus for the next 12 months is on growth. The company is currently expanding to Barcelona and the U.K., as well as expanding our operations in Estonia and the U.S. That's our main focus. The biggest challenge is finding people and maintaining our incredible company culture. It should be just as enjoyable for everyone to work in a company when there are 100 people as well as when there are 500 people.

Before joining Veriff, Amish spent over 5 years in a U.K,-based fintech, Monese, as VP of Finance, responsible for the accounting, financial planning and analysis, business intelligence and treasury functions. 

He oversaw the company’s rapid development from pre-launch to a headcount of several hundred, with operations in 4 countries. Prior to Monese, Amish had 10 years experience as an investment banker, working on mergers and acquisitions, capital raising and strategic advisory projects in Central and Eastern Europe.

Amish's efforts as the CFO have helped to bring Veriff across the magical $1b dollar line to become a unicorn.

In early 2021, we welcomed Amish Mody to the team as our new Chief Financial Officer. During his first 12 months at Veriff, he has been the mastermind behind our $69m Series B and $100m Series C rounds. His efforts together with the team, have helped to bring Veriff across the magical $1b dollar line to become a unicorn.
